Salute to The 40's

On the 9th and 10th of September, Salute to the 40's was once again at The Historic Dockyard in Chatham, and I visited on the first day. It was very warm and I wasn't able to walk about too much, but of course I took my trust Canon R50 with me to do some photography.

It was great fun, the music was lovely and it was amazing to watch the dancing, although I was very surprised to see people being so energetic with the heat! I was exhausted just watching them.

I hadn't been to Salute to the 40's in a while as I was in York, and last year those connected to the RNLI didn't go due to the passing of her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, so it was nice to see it all again after so long.

If you've never been to one, I do recommend going. There's always music, food and more, plus the usual things that are going on at the Dockyard. The re-enactors are always the ones who interest me the most though. I love the outfits and styles and being able to photograph them. For my photography, I use a larger lens so I can zoom in close, getting a beautifully blurry background, sharp focus on the person and it's candid. I'm not typically the type to enjoy posed photography unless I'm close to the person, I've photographed my brother and sister-in-law plenty of times in their reenactment gear, but for strangers I much prefer a distant approach and it works well for me.

I only hope that next year, the weather is cooler so I can have a proper walk around, but still, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and was happy to be there again. I'll definitely try to be there each year if I am able.
